District of San Marco
Venice has six districts, known as “sestieri”. The district of San Marco includes three important city venues and symbols: the Accademia Bridge, the Rialto Bridge, and the most famous Square in the world (as well as only one of the island), Piazza San Marco. Here, you can find some of the most well-known and beautiful city monuments: the splendid San Marco Basilica, richly decorated with Byzantine mosaics and columns, the elegant Palazzo Ducale, overlooking the San Marco basin, and the imposing “Campanile” (bell tower), from which you can enjoy one of the most breathtaking views of the city’s rooftops.
In this area, you can find elegant cafes and restaurants, famous art galleries, and the city’s most beautiful Murano-glass shops and important boutiques, for those who love shopping.
