In the heart of Provence, in the famed Luberon, a Benedictine Priory dating from the late 12th century now makes a spectacular vacation setting for up to 16 friends and/or family, in a superb environment.Great love for its very old stones will combine with the joys of sipping wine in the warm sun of the Luberon, lazing around an 11×5 meter pool, and visiting the famous nearby vineyards of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise and Châteauneuf du Pape. It is just minutes from the ancient Roman town of Vaison-La-Romaine; 30 minutes from the towns of Orange and Carpentras; and 45 minutes from the beautiful city of Avignon with its Papal Palace, historic streets, shopping and restaurants. The area is a cycler’s mecca, with nearby Mont Ventoux an icon for serious cyclists.
The warm-hued stone Priory, with commanding views of the surrounding vineyards, the medieval hilltop village of Crestet and the imposing Mt. Ventoux, is the perfect Provence home from which to enjoy exploring this rich region. The former arched chapel of vaulted stone now serves as a gracious dining room, and a reminder of the history of that long ago era, while in more recent times the former abbey was home to one France’s most celebrated novelists, Marie Cardinal, who drew inspiration from it’s beauty and history.
In addition to the Chapel dining room, enjoy a huge and fully equipped Provence style eat-in kitchen, or dine on one of several terraces for al-fresco dining at it’s best. When not enjoying the culinary delights of the region, relax in or around the immense swimming pool, play croquet on the lawn, enjoy an apéritif at a number of shaded seating areas in the garden, and indulge in the superb views from multiple roof terraces. The house occupies a peaceful position surrounded by fields of fruit trees (cherry, apricot and plum) as well as vines. In fact, it’s entirely secluded by trees including ancient parasol pines, cypress trees, chestnuts, oaks, and olives.
For sleeping, the 8 bedrooms all have new ensuite bathrooms with showers, and all the amenities, including a hairdryer in each room, excellent bath towels, and pool towels.
The bedrooms divide as follows:
Bedroom 1 – 1 King Bed, and Single Bed, The Chapel Bedroom
Bedroom 2 – 1 King Double Bed, The Venetian Bedroom
