Subiaco is an ancient and art-rich historic village in the hills 1 hour from Rome and 25 km from famous Tivoii. In Winter, you can tour Rome one day and enjoy alpine skiing the next day. Only 15 kilometers from your door is the Roman ski Resort of Monte Livata situated on the Simbruini mountains. There are 4 lifts covering different areas and serving runs from between 1340m and 1855m in Altitude. You will find different levels and 19 kilometers. Ski runs: 6 blue, 5 red, 2 black Nordic skiing: cross-country tracks of 5, 8, 10 and 15 Km covering 39 kilometers. There is also a Snow park in the sport complex called Fossa dell'Acero. Slightly further away, you will find another charming resort with interesting skiing called Pescasseroli with 16 runs over 20 kilometers and a Medieval setting Subiaco, thanks to St. Benedict and his sister, Scolastica, hermits in the 5th Century, is home to two famous Benedictine Abbeys, and 12 Monasteries. The exceptional Medieval town developed in their honor. Be awed by the medieval complex of Santa Scolastica which includes three monasteries, a church, a hostel for pilgrims and a library which contains copies of the first books printed in Italy in 1465. The castle, called Rocca Abbaziale, residence of the cardinals, was modified into a stately mansion, but from the outside retains its medieval fortified appearance. In this exceptional Medieval city, enjoy Italian life in numerous trattorias, restaurants, cafes, the weekly market, and regular festivals. You are a short drive to beautiful Tivoli with its Villa D'Este, and Villa Adriano and numerous other Medieval towns like beautiful Palestrina. Visit Fiuggi renowned for it famous Spas for thousands of years. You can drive or train to Rome, and of course, in winter, excellent skiing is nearby.
