Aquitaine, is a region, in the south-western part France, along the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees mountain range on the border with Spain. It comprises the 5 departments of Dordogne, Lot et Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes and Gironde. In the Middle Ages Aquitaine was a kingdom and a duchy, whose boundaries fluctuated considerably. It's famous cities for Tourism are, of course, Bordeaux, the city, and all of its famed wine regions, Toulouse, know as the "red city" because of its color, not its politics, and all of the Dourdogne' many quaint and historic towns. Of curse, do not forget its magnificent coastline, and its Basque country: Biarritz, there, is famed for its Casino's, spas, and Napolean's wife, Eugenie's home, now turned luxury hotel. St. Jean-de-Luz, once a quiet fishing village, is now a chic resort, with lovely shops, and out of thhis world, seafood restaurants. A short drive away, takes you to Spain.
